Greg Chappell
resigns as the Indian Coach! |
April 04,2007
Greg
Chappell has yet again sent a powerful email to
the BCCI, this time being about his resignation
as the National Coach. The under fire Coach has
decided to throw in the towel on the same day
when Sachin Tendulkar had come out in the open
to criticize his dig at the senior players.
Chappell has cited family and personal reasons
for his resignation in an email sent to Mr.
Ratnakar Shetty, the Board's Administrative
Head.
Chappell's contract was supposed to be till
April 30th that is the end of the ongoing World
Cup. But following the first round exit of the
star studded Indian team, Chappell has been
attacked from all the directions and the blame
game as expected took off. The 58-year-old was
expected to submit his report to the Board which
was leaked. It is believed that in his report he
had went onto call the Senior players in the
side as a 'Mafia' and that they were forcing
Rahul Dravid to act according to their wishes
and making life tough for the Captain. The
Seniors had also opposed the upcoming of
youngsters in the side according to the report.
The BCCI is due to study the reports from the
Coach and the team manager in a couple of days
before it takes any action.
The 22 month tenure of India's second foreign
coach has come to an end today. A short period
it was for the Australian, but one that always
had him in the headlines mostly for the wrong
reasons. Firstly his public spat with Sourav
Ganguly in 2005 and then his constant
experiments with the players in the batting line
up which were constantly criticized and lastly
the World Cup debacle where his processes
yielded only a win against Bermuda. In his
parting mail, Chappell has thanked the players
though with whom he has worked for nearly two
years and has stated that he had met all the
challenges posed by them professionally. He also
thanked all his support staff and also the BCCI
for giving him the opportunity to coach India.
He signed off wishing Indian Cricket the success
in the coming days.
