Australia and Srilanka go head to head in a 5 match one day series. Australia
is fresh off its VB success whilst Srilanka is well rested having played a
rain interrupted series earlier against England where 1 only game was able to
be played.
Australia's' side will have a familiar look about itself, Hayden and Gilchrist
opening for the side which will bat down to Bevan at 7. The bowling will be
dominated by Lee, Gillespie and Williams who are all in good form. Hogg is
likely to be the 4th bowler with the pitches looking to favour the spinners,
although their is a temptation to play Harvey as the 4th bowler. The remaining
overs will be filled in by the medium pace/off spin of Andrew Symmonds, the
left arm spin of Clarke, and the medium pace of Damien Martyn. The 3 reserves
on tour Katich, Kasprowicz and Haddin will have limited opportunities on this
tour.
Marvan
Attapatu and Jayasuyria will open the batting with wicket keeper batsmen
Sangakkara likely to bat at 3, followed by Jayawardene at 4. With Aravinda
Desilva and Hashan Tilikeratne retired from the one day game, it will provide
opportunities for Dihlsan, Arnold and CO down the order. With Sangakarra
keeping Srilanka are likely to play allrounder Chandana at 7, which will
signal a 3 pronged spin attack of Chandana, Dharmasena and Muralitharan.
Srilanka's pace attack looks bare with both Nissanka and Fernando sidelined,
Vaas is likely to open the attack with either Zoysa or Perera, or a rookie
bowler.
The
tour is not just an interest for its match value but for selections queries in
both the Australian and Srilankan test sides. The form of Bevan, Symmonds,
Clarke, Hogg and Kasprowicz will be keenly watched with a view to a possible
test berth.
All in
all it should be a great series, my prediction Australia to win.
