Symonds makes it
to the 2nd Test; Langer, Watson not fit |
Nov
11, 2005
One day regular Andrew Symonds has been included
in the Australian Test Squad for the 2nd Test to
be played at Hobart from the 17th of this month.
The hard hitting Symonds has played just the 2
Tests before with a highest score of 24 and with
a poor average of a little over 13.00. Symonds
brings his utility not only as an aggressive
batsman but also as an off spinner and sometimes
with his medium pace.
Simon Katich who hasn't scored many runs
has been dropped from the side. Thirty year old
Brad Hodge, a right handed middle order bat with
more than twelve and a half thousand first class
runs has also been included in the squad and he
might give Michael Clarke stiff competition for
his batting slot.
Shane Watson is
out of action for two months after a dislocation
in his shoulder during the 1st Test at Brisbane.
Justin Langer who didn't play in the 1st
Test due to a fractured rib will have to miss
the 2nd as well as he hasn't yet recovered from
the injury he had sustained during an ING Cup
match. This gives Michael Hussey another
opportunity at the top. The left handed Hussey
had scores of 1 and 29 in the
Gabba Test.
