Brett Lee ruled
out of World Cup! |
February 23, 2007
Australia
have received yet another jolt to their World
Cup campaign as they have lost the services of
Brett Lee. An ankle injury has forced Lee to
miss next month's event. Stuart Clark has been
named as the replacement.
As many as four players who have
been named in the 15-man squad are down with
injuries. Andrew Symonds had a surgery on his
biceps just recently and is an unlikely
candidate for the tournament. Hayden is doubtful
with a broken toe while Michael Clarke is
struggling with a hip injury. Brett Lee's injury
was an unfortunate, which was because of a fall
during training ahead of the first Chappell-Hadlee
ODI at Wellington. Lee is expected to be out for
around three months due to the ankle injury.
The defending World Champions
are struggling with a loss of form and injuries
to key players. They are entering the tournament
following a shocking defeat in the hands of
England in the CB Series and then a 0-3
whitewash that the Kiwis had inflicted on them.
