Langer to miss
the Boxing Day Test |
Dec
22, 2005
Gritty
Opening Batsman Justin Langer has injured
himself again and this time he has pulled a
muscle in his left hamstring. He would not be
part of the 2nd Test to be played against South
Africa on Boxing Day December 26th at the
Melbourne Cricket Ground. Langer had missed 2
Tests against West Indies this summer due to a
rib injury and this would be the third time in 5
Tests that he would be missing out.
Langer's replacement is Phil Jacques, another
left handed opening batsman. Jacques is an
aggressive 26 year old who plays for New South
Wales. Interestingly Philip Anthony Jacques or
simply Phil Jacques was born to English parents
and he does hold a British Passport and has
played county cricket for Northamptonshire,
Worcestershire and Yorkshire. So far so good for
the Aussies as their new players have come off
really well with the likes of Mike Hussey and
Brad Hodge holding their own at the Test Match
level and Phil Jacques can take lots of
inspiration from the two inspite of the fact
that he would be facing a potent South African
attack at the MCG infront of a 70000-80000 MCG
crowd!
Australia squad for the
2nd Test :
Matthew Hayden, Phil Jacques,
Ricky Ponting (Captain),
Brad Hodge,
Mike Hussey,
Adam Gilchrist (Wicket Keeper),
Andrew Symonds,
Brett Lee,
Shane Warne,
Glenn McGrath,
Stuart MacGill,
Nathan Bracken
