Hayden, McGrath
get One Day recall for Tri-Series |
August 22, 2006
Matthew
Hayden and Glenn McGrath have been named in the
18-man squad for next month's Tri-Series in
Malaysia. Hayden's opening partner for several
ODIs,
Adam Gilchrist will not be making the trip
and will stay back in Australia. Brad Haddin has
been given the opportunity to don the wicket
keeping gloves. Michael Hussey has been elevated
as the Deputy to Ricky Ponting. The 18-man squad
will be reduced to 14 members as the tournament
progresses from September 12. India and West
Indies are the other two sides taking part in
this series.
Hayden makes his comeback after a gap of one
year in the One day Side after he was dropped
following a lukewarm performance in the NatWest
Tri-Series and the NatWest Challenge in England,
2005. Hayden had played 119 ODIs ever since
making his debut way back in 1993. He has scored
4131 runs to date with 5 hundreds and 26
fifties. Also making his comeback after quite
sometime in the Australian side is Glenn McGrath
who had skipped cricket to spend time with his
wife who was diagnosed with cancer. The
36-year-old Glenn McGrath has taken 331 ODI
wickets in the 221 matches he has played in his
13-year-old International Career.
