Bangladesh Vs Pakistan at R.P.S, Colombo - 29.7.2004

 Shoaib Malik steers Pakistan home

BD 166 (Khaled Mashud 54, Shabbir 3/32) lost to Pak 167/4 (Shoaib Malik 48 Youhana 39 Razzaq 1/29)

Pakistan overcame Bangladesh's moderate total of 166 in 41 overs, losing four wickets. It was once again Shoaib Malik's innings which was instrumental in Pakistan's win with Malik scoring 48. He was well supported by Yousuf Youhana, who scored 39. Left arm spinner, Abdul Razzaq was simply impressive with figures of 1/29 in his 10 overs. Shoaib Malik was awarded with Man of the Match for his efforts.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh made a reasonably good recovery to score 166 after being 42/5 in 8 overs against Pakistan. Earlier in the day, the Bangladesh captain won the toss and elected to bat first. With Pakistan and Bangladesh, not able to make it to the finals, it was a match of pure academic interest. Pakistan fast bowlers Sami, Shabbir and Shoaib ripped through the Bangladeshi batting to reduce them to 42/5 in 8.0 overs. However, wicket keeper batsman, Khaled Mashud played a heroic innings of 54 in 92 balls with 5 fours to steer Bangladesh of an embarrassment. Extras was the second highest with the Pakistan bowlers giving away as many as 37. Bangladesh were all out for 166, with all the five Pakistan bowlers amongst the wickets. Shabbir was the highest wicket taker with 3/32.
