ASIA CUP FACTOIDS 2

 

Anil Kumble was the highest wicket taker in the 1995 Asia Cup with 7 wickets at an excellent average of 19.85.


India lifted the Asia Cup in 1995 for the 4th time at Sharjah, where they comprehensively beat Sri Lanka in the finals by 8 wickets. Mohammad Azharuddin was again awarded the Man of the Match and Sidhu for his excellent series average of 98.50 was awarded the Man of the Series award.


India again went on to win their 2nd successive and their 3rd Asia Cup in 1990/91 by defeating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta (Now Kolkata). Mohammad Azharuddin for his brilliant 54 of 39 balls was named as the Man of the Match.


India won the Asia Cup held in Bangladesh in the year 1988, as they defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets at Dhaka. Navjot Singh Sidhu was adjudged the Man of the Match for his impressive innings of 76 of 87 balls which also included 3 sixes. He was also given the Man of the Series award for scoring 179 runs in 4 Innings with an excellent Series average of 59.66.


Arshad Ayub was the highest wicket taker for India with 9 wickets at the Asia Cup held in 1988 in Bangladesh, which also involved Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. His match winning figures of 5/21 against Pakistan at Dhaka go into the Record Books as one of the great bowling spells by an Indian Bowler.
