Ganguly to
replace Tendulkar for Afro-Asian |
May 29, 2007
Sachin
Tendulkar has pulled out of the
Afro-Asian Cup. Not only Sachin but a
few more players as well have shown
their non-interest in the event.
Therefore the Asian Cricket Council
Selection Committee has revised its
squad. Sourav Ganguly is one of the
replacements for the 3-ODIs series which
starts in the first week of June.
The reasons for Tendulkar's non
participation hasn't been revealed by
the Committee. Other players who were
selected but not going to make it are
Shoaib Akhtar, Chaminda Vaas, Lasith
Malinga. Shoaib Akhtar had pulled out
several days back because of his knee
injury. Vaas and Malinga have cited
personal reasons. This has got Zaheer
Khan into the squad. Ironically Zaheer
Khan was a success in the first
Afro-Asian Cup which was held in South
Africa. The other two replacements are
Bangladesh's Mashrafe Mortaza and Sri
Lanka's Dilhara Fernando.
There is also one change
in the Twenty20 team because of the back injury
to Munaf Patel. Sreesanth, who just had a calf
injury that had ruled him out of the Bangladesh
Test Series has been the replacement for Munaf.
In the One Day Squad. The first ODI is on the
6th at Bangalore while the second and third are
on the 9th and 10th at Chennai.
